Sustainable Campus And Community

GREENING ON CAMPUS

The university was carbon conscious since the selection of the campus site, by rehabilitating and readapting an abandoned office building and saving a significant amount of embodied carbon of the existing building. During the construction phase all the unwanted materials were carefully removed and relocated to be reused in other office buildings. Most of the materials and furniture procured during the construction phase were locally sourced, helping to support the local economy and reducing transportation costs and energy. ESLSCA has implemented the “heat recovery from air-cooled chillers” system, by taking advantage of the “wasted heat” from the pre-existing chillers to generate hot water for the building. Significantly, reducing the energy consumption on campus.

The university is promoting carpooling through Trink app and will further incentivize it. Electric chargers were installed to encourage students and staff to use electric vehicles and are given “Preferred Parking Permits”. A transportation survey will be conducted to keep data on staff and students’ transportation up to date. Secure cycle parking is provided as well as modern shower facilities within the campus to enable a larger uptake of cycling.

Create better water monitoring of ongoing water consumption and target underperforming sites. Measure recycling rate and target zero contribution to landfill.

Instructors are encouraged to use a variety of methods for teaching content and offer alternative ways for participants to participate in class activities.

Accessible Campus For All

We are committed to removing any physical barriers that would prevent any member of the ESLSCA community from participating in any activity. During the fit-out stage for the campus, fixing accessibility issues took a high priority. For instance, ramps were installed, alternative routes were created for any outdoor areas and most importantly, ensuring the availability of accessible toilets on all floors of the buildings.

Inclusive Scholarships

Recipients of the special scholarship for SWDs will not only receive financial support but also benefit from a supportive and inclusive learning environment. Our university is dedicated to providing necessary accommodations and support services to ensure that SWDs have equal access to education, facilities, and opportunities.
