What is a case study?
A case study is an in-depth investigation method that allows for a comprehensive understanding of a specific subject, going beyond what broader research methods can capture. By examining real-life instances, case studies provide a rich context for analysis and interpretation.
What are case studies used for?
In their third year of study, students actively participate in the incubator process with ESLSCA's incubator Ex3, focusing on establishing their own businesses. Exceptional ideas receive funding, co-working space, and mentorship.
What do you do in a case study?
In a case study, researchers gather and analyze various qualitative data sources, such as interviews, observations, documents, and artifacts, to construct a detailed and holistic narrative that captures the dynamics and interactions within the chosen context.
What is on offer?
Learning with Cases
Cases are used to put students in the context of a business dilemma, allowing them to apply the concepts learned in the classroom to real-life situations. The case method is a powerful learning tool, as students better recall concepts applied to a case, than theory. Engaging students with cases promotes the development of skills such as decision-making, problem solving, critical thinking, teamwork, and judgement, all boosting employability. These skills are particularly relevant in a highly competitive job market, especially that many businesses use case solving as part of their recruitment process.
The case center for students wishing to further their case solving skills beyond the classroom may participate in various case related activities on campus.
Teaching with Cases
Students nowadays are no longer content with just reading textbooks and taking multiple-choice tests. They are looking for innovation and interaction in their learning experience. Teaching with cases is just the way to do that as it is an interactive tool that puts students in decision making roles. The ESLSCA Case Center provides continuous support and training to all instructors interested in teaching using the case method.
We assist faculty and provide workshops related to curriculum development, case-based course development, teaching with cases, and assessment through cases.
Workshops and Events
The ECC will launch its workshop series on the case method. The series addresses various topics to promote the case method to both case writers and case users.
Topics will revolve around, and not be limited to, the following subjects:
Why Use Case Studies? The importance of the case method in today’s learning
Teaching with Cases: How to redesign courses to incorporate cases
Writing Cases: Process and tips of writing case studies

Case Incentives
Publication Award Policy
Section I: Purpose
The publication award for case studies aims to motivate faculty, postgraduate, and undergraduate students to enrich existing knowledge in their respective domains and disciplines. It also strives to enhance the case study publication culture at ESLSCA University Egypt by incentivizing contributions to esteemed journals. This academic incentive encourages scholars to share their insightful case studies with the wider research community, allowing fellow academics to learn from real-world examples that illuminate theoretical concepts. By rewarding those who publish notable case studies, ESLSCA spurs its students and faculty to actively participate in the collective growth of their fields.
Section II: Eligibility
All ESLSCA faculty, postgraduate and undergraduate students are encouraged to submit their best work for this prestigious publication award. To qualify, you need only submit one published case study that lists your ESLSCA University Egypt affiliation. This is your chance to have your research recognized across the university.
Don’t let this opportunity pass you by! Be sure to apply within one year of your case study’s publication date or DOI issuance. Showcase your top-quality research and contribute to ESLSCA’s reputation for academic excellence. The selection committee eagerly awaits your submission – share your knowledge and achievements with us today!
Section III: Scope of publication award
The publication award will be granted for journal articles published in high-quality, peer-reviewed outlets. Specifically, all articles in SCOPUS-listed journals are eligible. Additionally, on a case-by-case basis, the publication committee may consider articles in journals not indexed by SCOPUS but deemed to uphold rigorous standards. These could include impactful case studies. The aim is to recognize and reward excellent scholarly work, regardless of the publication venue, as long as it advances the field through novel ideas, rigorous methodology, and skilled communication. By taking a holistic approach, we hope to incentivize and celebrate a diversity of significant contributions.
Section IV: Value of award and procedure
The award includes a certificate. If the paper submitted for the award is co-authored, all qualified co-authors are considered applicants and the paper is submitted by one co-author on behalf of all others. If the paper is selected for the award, all qualified co-authors will be recognized as winners.
Section V: Requirements
Two rewards per year maximum are awarded per faculty member, postgraduate or undergraduate student. Besides, a case study may be awarded only once. The author’s rank has no impact on the bonus amount.
Communications at conferences are encouraged and supported (see ESLSCA ICF policy) but do not give access to awards as they are conceived as the possibility to test, publicize, and improve papers that will be subsequently published in journals.
