Equality and Inclusion
ESLSCA is committed to incorporating sustainability into its actions and practices as part of its responsibility to the community and the environment. Our sustainability plan sets the basis for how we propose to tackle the unprecedented current and future challenges faced by our planet and its population responsibly, embedding sustainability development goals (SDGs) within the university’s core teaching and research functions. We strive to inspire and educate our students, faculty and staff to become responsible global citizens who actively contribute to a more sustainable world.
Equality and Inclusion
We promote equality and inclusion by implementing policies and practices that ensure equal access to education and related opportunities for all students, regardless of their background, ethnicity, gender, race or sex.
We are committed to creating an inclusive environment that attracts and retains the best students and staff from diverse backgrounds, giving them a strong sense of belonging so they may work creatively and innovatively.
We aim to provide inclusive, research-led curricula and enable our students to achieve their future study and career aspirations.
Our campus culture values and acknowledges diversity through events, clubs and organizations that promote equality and inclusion.
We support flexible ways of learning and working, ensuring excellence through inclusion, and we are open to adaptive learning techniques in support of our students with disabilities. Instructors are encouraged to use a variety of methods for teaching content and offer alternative ways for participants to participate in class activities.
The Disability Advisory Center
We provide specialist advice throughout your studies, including liaising with your department to recommend study adjustments (e.g. exam arrangements) and applying for specialist one-to-one support and equipment.
Accessible Camps For All
We are committed to removing any physical barriers that would prevent any member of the ESLSCA community from participating in any activity. During the fit-out stage for the campus, fixing accessibility issues took a high priority. For instance, ramps were installed, alternative routes were created for any outdoor areas and most importantly, ensuring the availability of accessible toilets on all floors of the buildings.
Inclusive Scholarships
Recipients of the special scholarship for SWDs will not only receive financial support but also benefit from a supportive and inclusive learning environment. Our university is dedicated to providing necessary accommodations and support services to ensure that SWDs have equal access to education, facilities, and opportunities.
Sustainable Campus And Community
- The university was carbon conscious since the selection of the campus site, by rehabilitating and readapting an abandoned office building and saving a significant amount of embodied carbon of the existing building.
- During the construction phase all the unwanted materials were carefully removed and relocated to be reused in other office buildings.
- Most of the materials and furniture procured during the construction phase were locally sourced, helping to support the local economy and reducing transportation costs and energy.
- ESLSCA has implemented the “heat recovery from air-cooled chillers” system, by taking advantage of the “wasted heat” from the pre-existing chillers to generate hot water for the building. Significantly, reducing the energy consumption on campus.
- The university is promoting carpooling through Trink app and will further incentivize it.
- Electric chargers were installed to encourage students and staff to use electric vehicles and are given “Preferred Parking Permits”.
- A transportation survey will be conducted to keep data on staff and students’ transportation up to date.
- Secure cycle parking is provided as well as modern shower facilities within the campus to enable a larger uptake of cycling.
- ESLSCA is working to remove all unnecessary single-use plastics from the campus, and currently developing a “Single-use Plastics Strategy.”
- Develop a waste management/segregation system, dividing the biodegradable and nonbiodegradable.
- Encourage recycling initiatives by providing financial incentives, such as, “fix it” clinics.
- Reduce and manage food waste responsibly, such as the disposal of the used cooking oil.
- Create better water monitoring of ongoing water consumption and target underperforming sites.
- Measure recycling rate and target zero contribution to landfill.
- Developing and launching a strategy to improve the university green spaces and increasing the number of green roofs and walls.
- Raising awareness on the risks of biodiversity loss.
- Working towards a safer environment for all wildlife.
Walk The Talk
The Principles for Responsible Management Education (PRME) is a United Nations-supported initiative, founded to raise the profile of sustainability in the educational sector around the world.
As a result of this partnership, we will embed the Sustainable Development Goals into our core curriculum and the daily functions of our business and management education.
This partnership is a testament to ESLSCA University’s dedication to equipping future leaders with the necessary skills to drive responsible business practices.
